SAFE, along with SIAM (Society of Indian
Automobile Manufacturers) and in association with Delhi Traffic Police,
organized a series of safety awareness programmes across the nation started
from 01 - 07 January 2010, during the National Road Safety Week.
The National Road Safety Week was concluded
at Pragati Maidan during 10th Auto Expo 2010, where the Minister of Road
Transport and Highways Shri Kamal Nath presented awards in both individual and
NGO category.
Speaking on the valedictory session Shri
Kamal Nath said “We should propagate measure to promote Road Sfaety throughout
the year. He acknowledged that a lot needs to be done to improve the quality of
the roads and enforce strict rules to ensure the safer roads”.
Mr. Dilip Chenoy, Director General, SIAM said that “During
this National Road Safety Week training programmes were being conducted on a
regular basis to educate three wheelers, bus and truck drivers. Over 500 truck
drivers had participated in these training programmes”.
Muskaan, the NGO from Jaipur was presented
the award for its meritorious work in educating and spreading awareness on road
safety amongst students, youth and general public through road safety school
education programme, theatre and road shows, TV & Radio programmes since
2001.
Makkal Sevai Maiyam, a public charitable
trust established in the year 2003 at Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu was presented
the award as runners up under NGO category for creating awareness in Road
Safety among people and to provide free Ambulance Service to accident victims.
The award for the winner in the individual
category went to Dr.A.M. Ikram, a medical practitioner working as a Chief
Traffic Warden Officer in the Tamilnadu Police since 1997. Shri Vinayak Narayan
Revankar was selected for the runners up award in the individual category for
his contributions made in spreading road safety awareness particularly in the Kolhapur region.
As a part of its nationwide campaign on
road safety and National Road Safety Week a Road Safety Rally was organized in
which more than 1000 students from various schools and more than 150
motorcycles and cars participated in the rally. During this nationwide campaign
on Road Safety more than 150 Traffic Police Wardens three wheeler drivers were
trained in association with stake holders from Traffic Police, Transport
Department and NGOs and organized a series of safety awareness programmes
across the nation.
National Road Safety Week Programmes are especially designed for the
Traffic Police Officers, DTC Bus Drivers, Three-Wheeler Drivers, Driving School
Trainers, School and College students, with the sole objective to reinforce
them with the overall knowledge on road safety
