Publication Asian Age
Details

General Motors India — the Indian arm of General Motors US – on Tuesday said the firm’s new mini car will be called ‘Chevrolet Beat’. The Beat will cost Rs 4 lakh and will be manufactured at the automaker’s Talegaon plant in Maharastra.

"The Beat is on schedule and is being tested as of now. We will start production for sale on December 15 this year. It will be first displayed at the 2010 Auto Expo in Delhi in January," the president and MD of General Motors India, Mr Karl Slym said.

GM India also said that it will launch its new Sedan—Chevrolet Cruz – in India on October 12. "The Cruz is being rolled out for Diwali and will be priced between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 14 lakh," the president said.

To highlight the firm’s new partnership with Bengaluru-based electric car company Reva, GM announced that from March next year, Reva cars will be sold in around 25 Chevrolet dealerships in the country.

"We have around 200 dealerships and 25 of them will sell Reva cars. Depending on the demand for these electric cars, the number may be increased later," he added.

The plug-in version of the Chevrolet Spark—the firm’s electric venture with Reva – will be rolled out in the next 12 months and will be manufactured at GM’s Talegaon or Halol plant.

General Motors is also planning to give its not-so-well selling Chevrolet Tavera a facelift next year to enhance its position in the Indian market.
