Roundtable on Diesel Vehicles & Technologies

28th June 2010 : New Delhi

New diesel vehicles are cleaner and quieter than ever before, and in the next few years, advance technologies in diesel will virtually eliminate key emissions. This progress is a result of combining clean diesel fuel, advanced engines and effective exhaust-control technology which have made the diesel engine systems more user friendly. Diesel, in near future, would play an important role in helping India addressing its energy and environmental challenges, by reducing our dependence on foreign oil and lowering of carbon intensity. Diesel is the world’s most efficient internal combustion engine and it provides more power and better fuel efficiency. Diesel fuel also has high energy content, helping diesel go further per litre than most other fuels. Oil companies are also reducing the sulphur content in diesel fuel, which reduces particulate emissions and enables use of advanced exhaust systems making the diesel vehicles very clean. The importance and unique value of diesel needs to be recognized in India.

In view of the above, SIAM is organizing a round table as per the details given below, to seek further insights on the new policies that are being adopted in advanced economies for Diesel vehicles and look at various fiscal and policy options which India could consider for harnessing the potential of Diesel vehicles for sustainable transport in the country.

Date: 28th June 2010 (Monday)
Time: 0930 hrs onwards
Venue: Jacaranda Hall, India Habitat Centre, Lodi Road, New Delhi – 110 003

The round table is expected to bring together vehicle manufacturers, technology providers, energy suppliers, policy makers and other stakeholders to discuss this important subject.
