SIAM is coordinating a Workshop under the EU Programme for Strengthening road transport research cooperation between Europe and emerging international markets (SIMBA). SIMBA aims to increase cooperation between the EU and the emerging markets of China, India, Brazil and South Africa in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Infrastructure and Automotive.

The main outcome of SIMBA Project will be trans-national networks of key road transport stakeholders that can help define the priorities, research needs and future cooperation areas for road transport.

SIAM is organising the first SIMBA regional workshop on 9th and 10th of November 2006 at Hotel Shangri-La, New Delhi. The Workshop participation would consist of Government Officials from Ministry of Shipping Road Transport and Highways, Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Ministry of Information Technology, Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Non Conventional Energy Sources, Department of Science and Technology, Academic Institutions, IT Industry, Auto Component and Vehicle Manufacturers. A Team from EU would be travelling for this Workshop.

During the workshop, participants would:

• Share and learn about latest developments in ITS, Infrastructure and Automotive.
• Discuss and identify areas for joint working between India and EU in the areas of ITS, Infrastructure and Automotive.
• Identify specific projects that could be taken up.
• Define priorities and research needs in the areas of ITS, Infrastructure and Automotive.
